Controlling
ANGER
with
COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Mismanagement of anger is something that
can be controlled. In counseling, we deal with
three things: thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
By changing our thinking we can control our
behaviors. Lack of control of anger is
associated with the disengagement of the
conscious thought processes that regulates
behavior. When anger bypasses the regulatory
mechanism of the cognitive (thought) processing
center, it manifests in out-of-control behavior:
aggression toward self or others; difficulty in
interpersonal relationships; depression;
physiological symptoms such as ulcers, stomach
problems, high blood pressure. At Starpoint, we
help you re-engage your rush of anger impulses
with the conscious thought processing center of
your brain and thereby create alternative and
healthier responses to those anger impulses
that results in rewarding, satisfying, and
healthier behaviors. Cognitive behavioral
therapy is a model of psychotherapy that works
toward putting you in control.

HYPNOTISM
Hypnotism is the calming of the body's
cognitive (thought) center wherin resides the
body's regulatory center. When your mind is
calm (in a trance-like state), and your thoughts
are focused on goals that you want to
accomplish, the powerful forces of hypnotherapy
begin to work for you and sustain desireable
change over time.
