Texas Administrative Code (Board Rules) §681.83(b)(2)
requires that any person who begins the supervision of an LPC
intern on or after January 1, 1995, must have supervisory
training. The training shall be accomplished through one of the
following methods:
(A) An examination offered for certification as a counselor
supervisor or current certification as a counselor supervisor by a
nationally recognized counseling association acceptable to the
board
(B) 40 clock-hours of training in the supervision of counseling or
mental health services through one or a combination of the
following:
(1) A graduate course in counselor supervision taken for credit
at an accredited college or university;
(2) Continuing education programs meeting the requirements of
board rule §681.174 and offered as meeting the course content
for supervisor training set out in board rule §681.83(b)(2) or (3).
(3) Clinical supervision of the proposed supervisor by a person
who has already met the requirements for supervisor training or
if from another state who would be acceptable under board rule
§681.83(a)(2) or (3).
(C) A doctoral degree, awarded from an accredited college or
university prior to application, in counseling or related field
designed to train the person to provide direct services to
individuals or groups in a counseling relationship in the
resolution of personal-social, educational or occupational
problems.
(D) Provided at least three (3) years of clinical supervision, prior
to application, in counseling of another person or persons
through an accredited university or a mental health facility
licensed, accredited, or otherwise credentialed by the federal,
state or local government or a nationally recognized organization
in the field of mental health.
