Course Description: This learning program focuses on the adult drug
courts and medication-assisted treatments available and being practiced for
opioid dependence throughout the United States. It looks at the disease
concept as a perspective from which to view the overall guiding principle in
this field.  The extent of opioid use is explored, and the concept, efficacy,
rationale, and efficacy of Medication Assisted Treatment in the drug courts is
addressed.

Objectives: 1)  Discuss opioid use and dependence.  2) Describe MAT as
an evidence-based best practice for opioid dependence, the support for MAT
by established, specialized organizations; the effective medication treatments
for opioid dependence; and MAT and the drug courts.
3) Provide web resources and relevant publications from SAMHSA.
